December 25
I'd wish you all a
merry Christmas but I cannot fathom
how that would mean anything to you,
so to share the joy Christ brings me I'll
just say have a nice day.

Interesting. Kind of an implied insult in the midst of well-wishing.
Actually, I imagine people without a specific religious belief may heartily join in a communal celebration with great gusto. Communal celebrations have a horizontal component (ie between people) as well as for religious people a vertical component (between them and their view of God). For we in the West, many formerly exclusively religious celebrations have been secularized to the extent that religious people frequently complain about it. Christmas and Easter come to mind. If one wishes one can view Christmas as a special time to celebrate with family and loved ones and to set aside time to consciously extend compassion to the marginalized. You don't need to be religious to do that.
In fact, as a practical atheist I can and extend wishes for a 'merry Christmas' to believers and non-believers, Hindus and Buddhists. I don't have to exclude people because they aren't in my 'club.'

Why thank you
Hope yours went well too
In 2 hours or so, I will be celebrating another day being non-religious
but I can't fathom how
you religious people would just take a regular day without God(s)
so I'll just end by saying
Happy days ahead
Hope yours went well too

Wow. You really don't have a sense of humor, do you?

Thank you too. Glad some here can wish others well even when they don't share fundamental theological beliefs.

You needlessly shone a spotlight on the differences that divide us via a holiday wish. Are you honestly suggesting you intended not a whiff of self-righteous indignation?Objectivitees wrote:Wow. Perhaps you suffer from a self-awareness deficit. Often bystanders suffer farts unnoticed by the offender.

Surely you didn't miss the humour in my reply?

Merry Xmas Objectivees
I had a great winter solstice...oh I mean, I had a merry christmas. I celebrated a pagan holiday... oh, my bad, I mean Jesus' B-day. I stimulated the economy by purchasing a lot of crap... oh dear, I meant to say that I got into the spirit of giving. And I celebrated "Immaculate Conception"... haha, I may be a godless heathen but I have the social manners to not say what that really means. I hope Objectivees and everyone else had a merry xmas, happy hannukah, kwaanza, winter solstice, nirvana, blahblahblah, whatever, etc. Whatever you believe, its all good, cause we need diversity in the gene pool to help ensure the survival of the species.

Eh, it's another excuse to spend time with my friends and family. (And any excuse I can come up with to do so, I'm fine with.)

Yes. And I argue your assumption it was needless.

This is my favorite response so far. Social comport trumps epistemological presuppositions. Bravo.
Re: December 25
Does anyone else feel sorry for Jesus during Christmas time? I mean, his birthday is on the same day as Christmas, so he has to get less presents. That's gotta suck.Closet Agnostic wrote:I had a great winter solstice...oh I mean, I had a merry christmas. I celebrated a pagan holiday... oh, my bad, I mean Jesus' B-day..
