Advise wanted: Books on child rearing needed

Hi,

I realize that this is probably a bit off topic but I don't really know where else to ask. My girlfriend is pregnant (its a bit of a shock, I'm totally unprepared for it but gradually starting to like the idea!!). I know that raising kids can be difficult & I really don't know anything about it. I'm interested in reading some books on raising children but I'm sure there must be a lot of voodoo out there. Does anyone have any recommendations for books which are based sound psychology? I'm from the UK and sudo science is rife here!
