Sympathy Cards / Comforting the Bereaved Empty Sympathy Cards / Comforting the Bereaved

This is the first time I've ever posted in any forum, anywhere. But, I'm so frustrated every time I go to buy sympathy cards and I thought y'all might understand and... sympathize. Well, empathize. It is SO HARD to find a sympathy card by Hallmark that doesn't mention God or state that the recipient is in my prayers! I have to go through 20 cards to find one with an acceptable sentiment that doesn't involve religion.
Trying to give comfort to the bereaved is an exercise in frustration. I was a failure as a victim's advocate because I had no response when God came into the conversation. I would pretend to pray with them because - well it made them feel better and that was my job. But, I mean - REALLY?? You really think that it was God's will that your 21 year old son's best friend should kill him while driving drunk?? F* THAT GOD! Your God decided it was his time??!! It is NEVER the right time for a young person to die. And when religious leaders at funerals spout that BS I just want to stand up and scream, "YOUR GOD DECIDED IT WAS TIME FOR THIS BRIGHT, BEAUTIFUL, YOUNG PERSON TO DIE??? WHY DO YOU LOVE AND WORSHIP THIS BASTARD??? YOU BELIEVE IN AN ENTITY THAT ALLOWS KIDS TO DIE VIOLENTLY? AND YOU FIND COMFORT IN THAT BELIEF??????" That's insane. Just insane. And don't get me started on the Holocaust.
Okay. Thanks for letting me get that off of my chest.
