Grieving over God like a dead parent.

I'm a listener of the show. I like it a lot and over the past two years I've gradually transitioned to atheism. The problem is that now that I know that nobody is taking care of the universe it seems like a very scary place. I miss the comfort I had that everything would "turn out okay" and I feel very alone. It's hard to get used to and I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way.

Never having been religious myself I have never experienced the feeling you describe. However I have heard former Christians talking about that feeling and it is a fairly common question on the Atheist Experience show. Getting over it requires some adjustment to your way of thinking and realizing that you never really had the answer, only a comforting lie.
