A name you should know
I'm a little late with this news, but I thought it deserved a thread anyway - Norman Borlaug died on September 12th, at the age of 95, after leading perhaps the most productive life any human being in history can lay claim to.
And yet he's not a household name - though he should be. He was the father of the "Green Revolution", an agronomist who developed high yield, disease resistant varieties of important food crops, and with his work, ended up saving whole regions on Earth from famine. It has been estimated that he was responsible from saving more people than any other person in history - his work saved somewhere between 250 million and one BILLION people from starvation.
Here's a recent news article on him:

So my hat's off to Mr. Borlaug, that was truly a life well lived!

I heard about this on Atheist Experience. He sounded like an incredible being. Perhaps if there is a just, loving, god, it was him. A little bit of hyperbole, but I think it gets the point across
