Re: Television:
I think mythbusters kinda goes without saying that everyone's fan of that show here.
But as far as other skepticism promoting shows, I just watch The Mentalist
Geek-oriented shows that I watch and love:
Burn Notice
NCIS
Batman: The Brave and the Bold
Internet TV/podcasts:
Scam School
Diggnation
CO-OP
Totally Rad Show
Brian Dunning's inFact
FilmRiot
(all of these shows share an equal place in my heart)
My top 5 audio podcasts(of 80ish podcasts)
The Bugle
Reasonable Doubts
Rebel FM
Common Sense with Dan Carlin/Dan Carlin's Hardcore History
Stuff You Should Know

Re: Television:
Mythbusters is good fun, definitely. I don't watch alot of TV, but that's one show I can sit through and know I'm not wasting my time. I do have a few shows that I really enjoy, such as Angel (I heart Joss Whedon), Firefly (gunned down in its prime), Doctor Who (Jon Pertwee rules), True Blood, and The History Channel's The Universe (just bought season 3!).
Commercials...I go out of my way to avoid exposure to commercials (or marketing of any kind, really) much the same way I try to avoid exposure to small pox or dysentery.
As for podcasts...Working the night shift in a smaller city hospital, I've found podcasting to be an absolute sanity-saver, and many a slow night has been highlighted by an episode of Reasonable Doubts. Common Sense with Dan Carlin is, indeed, a great podcast. Truthdig and Counterspin have excellent podcasts, as does Tom Ashbrook's On Point and KCRW's Left, Right & Center. I also love me some gaming podcasts, and Mr. Christopher, Rebel FM is by far one of the best! ListenUp, Retronauts, Giant Bombcast, and Joystiq are all staples in my weekly podcasting.

Momma Heathen - that was
!
In case you aren't aware of one of the awesomest YouTube skeptics/atheists out there, Theramintrees, I feel obligated to bring him to people's attention:
The range of his videos is great - everywhere from music to comedy, to horror, to educational, the only common theme being general awesomeness.

Re: Television:
Damn, I forgot all about True Blood, which is infuckingcredible (what's the language policy of the forums?) I missed the season finale though

Re: Television:
Oh yes please! The opening credits are amazing (love the song!) and so is the rest of it. I'm not that fond of the fangs though... they look a little bit silly to me. But, I ignore them as much as possible (and, come on, who cares about the fangs anywayMisterChristopher wrote:Damn, I forgot all about True Blood, which is infuckingcredible (what's the language policy of the forums?) Another favourite tv series is of course Carnivàle. I watched the entire first season in one go - I just couldn't stop!

"I wanna do bad things with you."
What a great tune. It has a habit of getting stuck in my head on a regular basis.
Blacklens -
My brother has been nagging me to watch Carnivale for a while now; he's been telling me it's one of his favorite shows ever.

I missed season 1, but I watched, and absorbed, and become one with season 2. Loved it, and wish it would've continued
Re: Television:
House, NCIS, NUMB3RS, Monk, Psych, Burn Notice, Royal Pains, Criminal Minds, Mentalist, Cold Case, Real Time with Bill Maher, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, The Rachel Maddow Show, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report
Re: Television:
I really wish some station in Sweden would show Real Time with Bill Maher, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Well, we do get The Daily Show in lousy quality on some obscure channel once in a while, but other than that I have to make due with what's available on Youtube...BrodeurHOF wrote:House, NCIS, NUMB3RS, Monk, Psych, Burn Notice, Royal Pains, Criminal Minds, Mentalist, Cold Case, Real Time with Bill Maher, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, The Rachel Maddow Show, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report

Re: Television:
Unfortunately living in Germany I'm stuck with the terrible Lederhosen, Bier and oompaloompah band folkie TV that they seem to play when they're not playing football (soccer). But if I were inclined to download TV shows (cough cough) you'd find me watching Flight of the Conchords, The Daily Show, Deadwood, Sopranos & Outrageous Fortune.
My favourite by a country mile has to be Flight of the Conchords...just brilliant:

Dawkins on Colbert
Ok I'm going to a total girl right now and gush.
When I saw Richard Dawkins on The Colbert Report tonight I couldn't get over how cute he was!
Not cute like the hunky meat popsicles on Reasonable Doubts... cute like a fossilized teddy bear.
He's put on a touch of weight, which I don't know, made him more cuddly and he was wearing a tie with fossils on it which just... lol
I just felt this surge of love and affection and pride. That he's out there speaking for us and that he's not a scary atheist that people are afraid of.
Ok ok you can start making fun now.
On a similarly girly and random note...
Who would you rather have a one night stand with?
Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens?
Or Jesus?
I think personally... Jesus. Because he could like... rise again. Again and again...
;-)
But I might prefer to cuddle with Richard afterwards....

Re: Television:
for the record, his tie didn't have fossils on it. they were crocoducks, one of the supposed "missing links" that kirk cameron whipped on on his debate with the rational response squad on abc.

Re: Television:
I totally missed the crockoducks on his tie. That's fantastic!

Re: Television:
Of course, he's on O'Reilly. Where else would he be?
I love the crockoduck. I mean, look at that friggin' thing. I don't know what's funnier, that, or Cameron's incredulous smirk.

AAAAAH of course it's a crocoduck!
lol
I saw it when he was on Bill O'Reily's show the other day.
BTW could he have been a bit more aggressive??
I mean I understand being polite but could he throw a DASH of Hitch in there?

Re: Television:
What's up, fellow Mainer...
First of all, I love The Simpsons. And Homer makes that show.
"...the need that modern man feels toward faith"
I think not. Some, maybe. But that is on the decline.
I find Homer's calling god "Superman" quite telling. He's equating one imaginary super-powered savior who's the star of his own best-selling work of fiction with another.
